Orange Rocker 15 1x10' 15-watt Tube Combo Amp - Black. Finely balanced and supremely playable, this channel is perfectly voiced to bring out the ‘natural’ sound of the instrument under your fingers (or the pedals under your feet). The Natural channel is a purist’s dream with just a single knob: Volume. Even when scaling back the power, the amp’s tone stays fat and full, oozing warm valve compression and saturation without disturbing the neighbours.Ĭlever options aside, the Rocker 15 has real character – a twin channel design with a twist. Thanks to a custom Voice of the World Gold Label speaker and beefy transformers, the Rocker 15 has a remarkably potent delivery which takes full advantage of its EL84 output section. With the Rocker 15 set wide open, smaller venues are comfortably taken care of despite the amp’s miniature footprint. Finally, a small, two channel, bedroom-friendly all-valve amp that you can legitimately gig! Voiced for that 70s & 80s Classic Rock tone, has an excellent tube driven buffered FX Loop and thunderously loud for a 15 Watt amp. The attenuator is a nice feature on that amp.Capable of 0.5, 1, 7 or 15 Watts of output the Rocker 15 is an extremely portable combo that moves seamlessly from the home, to the studio, to the stage. 2 I have an Orange Rocker 15 Terror, a great all tube 2-channel amp head that works well with many FX pedals and sounds fantastic thru cabs of Celestion Vintage 30s and 70th Anniversays. On a side note, I tested the Rockerverb 50w MKIII and it's a loud amp. For the best possible tone and durability, the Rocker 15 uses the same proprietary transformers found in our iconic Terror Series. I checked the built quality, everything was top notch on the unit that I tested. THE AMP FOR ALL OCCASIONSCapable of 0.5, 1, 7 or 15 Watts of output the Rocker 15 is an extremely portable combo that moves seamlessly from the home. At Orange, we expect our amps to work for a living. 0.1w is way too quiet for a bedroom amp, at least with 0.5w, you have a great tone and that's it. I don't know how they did the attenuator, but it doesn't suck the tone, it's only quiet and I think that the 0.5w is the key. The OR15 has higher gain, less clean headroom, a slightly different voice than the R15 dirty channel and has a more effective EQ than the Rocker. 5 watt settings Buffered effects loop Dual channel. I don't know how they did that, but even with that 10' speaker, there's bass and you can hear that it's a 101db speaker. Do NOT buy an Orange amp if you are trying to get a Marshall sound. The Laney build probably isnt quite as good but I like Laney amps. Orange Rocker 15 - 15-watt 1x10 Tube Combo with Free Orange Amp Cover In the early 2000s, a new era of high-gain Orange Amplification tone was ushered in. I tested everything with that amp, the 7w mode, the bedroom switch(1w and 0.5w). The Laney has a better clean if you like a nice clean (its a lovely clean from memory), the Rocker probably has a better base for pedals (duller and needs an EQ if you have a darker mahogany HB guitar). The clean tone is really good, the dirty channel is as good as the clean channel but with a 3 bands EQ if you want. In terms of GAS, I recently picked up a used monoprice 15w amp because it came with a cannabus rex speaker and I was planning on swapping the tubes and speaker on that amp into the FBJ. Man, I must say that this little Rocker 15 was something. An Orange Rocker 15 recently popped up for sale and Im especially intrigued by the built in attenuator. I went to my local dealer this afternoon and I was able to try those :

We evaluated them on performance, price, comfort, value, and versatility to determine the best impact drivers that will meet the needs of a wide range of people. While compact wrenches were used to remove and then replace new, 9/16-inch, grade eight bolts tightened to 200 foot-pounds. Standard sized wrenches were also used to remove, or break free, rusted nuts and bolts on an old piece of farm equipment. Lug nuts removed were torqued to the recommended spec at 165 foot-pounds on a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck-with compact wrenches, we removed them from a car torqued to a slightly lower spec of 150 foot-pounds. The first was removing and replacing lug nuts. We chose practical tasks that most people might need to accomplish with these impact wrenches. We research the market, survey user reviews, speak with product managers and engineers, and use our own experience operating these tools to determine the best options. How We Tested Impact WrenchesĮvery impact wrench on this list has been thoroughly vetted and evaluated by our test editors. Their size and capability for common tasks makes compact impact wrenches incredibly versatile. Because they are smaller, they don’t have the high torque specs of the larger models, but they have more than enough for most assembly/disassembly tasks the average person might encounter. However, these bigger tools may not fit in the spaces where they are needed.Ĭompact and sub-compact impact wrenches have shorter, less bulky, tool heads that fit into tight spaces better. They’re great for removing stubborn, rusted nuts and bolts. Full-size impacts will have larger, longer tool heads, with beefier internals, and thus higher torque specs. If the tool isn’t labeled specifically compact or sub-compact, you can assume, it is a full-sized model. There are also smaller ⅜- and larger ¾-inch drive models, with the latter being for heavy vehicle maintenance, agricultural equipment, or other industrial uses.Īmong half-inch impact wrenches, there are also tool body sizes-generally, full, compact, and sub-compact. What are we talking about when we say size? The most common size impact wrenches are ½-inch drive models-those with a square anvil measuring ½ x ½-inch, that accepts ½-inch sockets. And high RPM help drive nuts or bolts faster, while IPM kick in harder as the resistance increases. Impacts per minute (IPM) increase as revolutions per minute (RPM) increase. Think of amp hours like the volume of a gas tank-a bigger number equals more gas. Generally, 18-volt tools with advanced features and capabilities make them more versatile and easier to use.Īmp hours (Ah) equals the number of amps that the battery will discharge, continuously, for an hour. Tools with 18 and 20 volts have less difference between them. This makes them good for smaller jobs, working overhead, or getting into tight spaces. With smaller batteries, 12-volt impact wrenches are more compact. Batteries: Volts and Amp Hours (Ah)Īll things being equal, higher voltage will give you more power-but there are cases for lower voltage. As a result, the twisting motion-known as reactionary torque-that you feel when using an electric drill is virtually eliminated. Fortunately, impact wrenches are extremely comfortable to use because the concussive blows smoothly transfer most of that high-energy torque directly to the fastener, not to your hand, wrist, or arm. However, all that brute strength isn’t very useful if you can’t control the tool. By comparison, cordless impact wrenches can easily produce torque outputs of over 250 foot-pounds, which is more than enough muscle to power-drive the fattest lags and bust loose rusty, corroded nuts. For example, most cordless drill/drivers produce about 50 foot-pounds of torque, and the average impact driver delivers about 125 foot-pounds. It employs both rotational force (torque) and short-burst concussive blows (impacts) to deliver an unparalleled amount of power. Unlike cordless drill/drivers and impact drivers, which excel at drilling holes and driving screws, the impact wrench is specially designed for tightening and loosening various hex-head bolts, nuts, and lag screws. What You Need to Know About Impact Wrenches How They Work Characteristics and uses īlack light paints and inks are commonly used in the production of black light posters. naval carriers to allow planes to land at night. During World War II, black light fluorescent paints were used on U.S. The first commercial uses of black light fluorescent paints were for store displays and movie theaters. ‘Day-Glo’ is a registered trademark of the Day-Glo Color Corporation. The brothers founded the Fluor-S-Art Company, later named Day-Glo Color Corp., to develop and sell their products. The first use of these paints was for Joseph's amateur magic shows. They brought a black light into the storeroom of their father's drugstore looking for naturally fluorescing organic compounds and mixed those compounds with shellac to develop the first black light fluorescent paints. Joseph, who was a chemistry major at the University of California, Berkeley, worked with Robert to investigate fluorescent compounds. His doctor confined him to a dark room while he waited for his sight to recover. After a fall, Robert suffered a severe head injury that resulted in a severed optic nerve. The invention of black light paint is attributed to brothers Joseph and Robert Switzer in the 1930s. Black light paint should not be confused with phosphorescent (glow-in-the-dark) or daylight fluorescent paint. The paint may or may not be colorful under ordinary light. Think domestic cats, hawks, squirrels, snakes, and rats.ĭowny woodpeckers nest in tree cavities. Mixed flocks are aware of all alarm calls-even from other species they travel with-and the whole feathered gang teams up to mob any dangerous intruder. When predators lurk, some safety comes with numbers. Many pairs of eyes are an asset in food finding. But in winter, downy woodpeckers do associate with other small birds as they forage, forming loose mixed flocks with chickadees and nuthatches. It is said, “Birds of a feather flock together.” Downy woodpeckers don’t flock with masses of their own kind. A downy has a small, dainty bill, about half the length of its head a hairy has a heftier, thorn-like bill almost as long as the width of its head from front to nape. How do these two species differ besides size? The best clues are the bill size and shape. Both have similar feet with two toes forward, two toes back, to help them climb. Both species have similar foraging behaviors, although the smaller downies seem to select smaller, slimmer, higher branches, but not always. While feasting, they stay put and allow watchers to study what distinguishes them from their near look-alikes, hairy woodpeckers (which are roughly 1/3 larger than downies).īoth species are black and white, males have red on the head, and both species have stiff, pointed tail feathers that help brace them as they spiral up trunks or when they hammer away to get food or chisel out nests. They are common feeder birds and will consume black oil sunflower seeds, peanuts, millet, and suet. These small insect eaters nimbly circle tree trunks and branches to probe for edibles in the bark-and equally nimbly vanish around the trunk when you try to look at them! When they leave for the next food tree, they move with undulating flight.ĭowny woodpeckers are found in woodlands, orchards, parks, riparian areas, and leafy back yards, and although never numerous, they are year-round residents. But the downy, our smallest woodpecker, is only 5 ½ to 6 ½ inches, somewhere between the size of a sparrow or robin. A fast (up to 20 hits a second), insistent drumming may echo from a nearby tree, power pole, or even a metal chimney pipe (to ear-shattering effect) as the bird communicates, tries to attract a mate, or claims territory. A slow and intermittent “tap-tap-tap” hints the bird is feeding. A sharp “pik, pik,” or a shrill, descending whinny call catches your attention. Both species only lay eggs once a year with 3-6 eggs for the Downies and 3-8 for the Hairies.Sounds may first alert birders to the presence of a downy woodpecker. Both species use the woodchips that come from pecking to line their nests to cushion the eggs. The Downies nests are slightly smaller than the Hairies. They both prefer an angled branch with the entrance on the lower side to keep flying squirrels and sapsuckers from using their nests. Both woodpeckers look for trees that have a fungus or rot problem, making it easier for them to peck out their nest holes. Downies nest in trees, tall weeds or in fencerows. They both inhabit open woodlands, orchards, city parks and our backyards with deciduous trees. So now we know they look alike, except for size. In spring and summer, Downy Woodpeckers make lots of noise, both with their shrill whinnying call and by drumming on trees.” Their rising-and-falling flight style is distinctive of many woodpeckers. Downy Woodpeckers hitch around tree limbs and trunks or drop into tall weeds to feed on galls, moving more acrobatically than larger woodpeckers. The outer tail feathers are typically white with a few black spots. Males have a small red patch on the back of the head. The black upperparts are checked with white on the wings, the head is boldly striped, and the back has a broad white stripe down the center. Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers give a checkered black-and-white impression. The bill tends to look smaller for the bird’s size than in other woodpeckers. They have a straight, chisel-like bill, blocky head, wide shoulders, and straight-backed posture as they lean away from tree limbs and onto their tail feathers. So, let’s talk about what Downies look like! All About Birds describes the Downy this way: “Downy Woodpeckers are small versions of the classic woodpecker body plan. How about this? Downy v Pileated!
